From Gucci to Prada, so-called librarian chic is huge in fashion. But a new book by Kyle Cassidy reads between the lines to challenge the stereotypes of librarian style – and look at the ways in which they are the champions of our communities. Thanks to The Guardian website for posting a sneak preview!

The Guardian website fashion section – you read that right, the FASHION SECTION – has printed a series of photos of more than 200 librarians from all 50 US states document the men and women behind the books.  The photos and article preview the work of author/photographer Kyle Cassidy’s book This is What a Librarian Looks Like; a celebration of libraries, communities, and access to information.

The article by Ellie Violet Bramley leads with this sentence: “Glasses, cardigans, satchels and sensible shoes – this is what you probably think a librarian looks like.” But it gets way better from there.

Take a scroll through the photos while reading the text down the left-hand side of the page to learn fascinating tidbits like, holy incunabula, there are blogs dedicated to “librarian chic!”  Including Librarian Wardrobe (“breaking and embracing the stereotype), run by Maria Aghazarian and DeAnn Brame where you can submit your own photo of What a Librarian Looks Like!!
