WVLS Grassroots Gathering - Wednesday, March 7, 2012

The WVLS Grassroots Gathering will also take place from 1:30 to 3:30 on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the same location. This is an opportunity for school and public librarians to get together, network and learn from each other.

We are very pleased that the new state DLTCL Youth and Special Services Consultant,Tessa Michaelson Schmidt, will be joining us! It will be Tessa’s first opportunity to participate in a system grassroots gathering discussion!

At the 2011 WVLS Grassroots Gathering held last October, participant consensus was to (1) move the school and public library sharing/discussion opportunity to Children's Book Fest afternoon with minimal emphasis on Summer Library Program and the option of a short additional informative sidebar program and (2) schedule a day long workshop in October 2012 with the morning devoted to Summer Library Program and the opportunity for an author presentation or additional training of interest to both school and public youth librarians.

Annual grassroots meetings are required in each of Wisconsin’s 17 public library systems. They are a means by which public library system youth services consultants like me gather data and feedback from their member libraries to not only inform our system service and program decisions but also to generate a report to DLTCL and the state youth services consultant.

The comprehensive WVLS school librarian email list was a product of our 2011 grassroots meeting.  It is hoped that piggybacking it with the Children's Book Fest Wednesday program will provide more school librarians with an opportunity to attend, as well as save time and gas by scheduling the two events together.

Please RSVP to Kris Adams Wendt at kawendt@wvls.org by Friday, March 2, 2012
